Abstract:
»This article discusses the thesis, commonly accepted since the work of Siegfried Kracauer, that Fritz Lang's movie M is a "political" film in the sense that it warns of the rise of the Nazi danger or, according to other authors, supports the Nazis in Germany in 1930. On the basis of a detailed study of the film and the director's statements, I argue that M should instead be considered a documentary and 'prophylactic' film about serial killers, particularly paedophiles.«
